Children and young people:
Dependent upon our assessment findings, interventions that we may employ when working with children & young people will have been enhanced by our knowledge gained from a Neuro-Developmental Assessment; use of the Neuro-Sequential Model of Therapeutics (NMT) and the Integrate Families Clinical Assessment devised by Dr. Marks. Interventions may include: Play Therapy; Trauma Therapy – including addressing Sexual Abuse and Sexualised Behaviour; EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing); Parent-Child Therapy; Attachment based Therapies; Creative Art Therapies; Counselling in school; and Intensive Therapy*.
When working with children and young people, the parents/carers are integral to the work and will be asked to complete a number of specialist questionnaires to enhance understanding of the child or young person.
Integrate Families believe that therapy with children is most effective when the parents/carers, therapist and the school work together as a team, in order to ensure best outcomes.
Many children with complex behaviours or emotional difficulties experienced multiple failures as they are unable to change their behaviours on long term, despite multiple opportunities. We have found that many of these behaviours and emotional problems are the result of early known or unknown emotionally overwhelming or traumatic experiences. By addressing these, the core of the complex behaviours or emotional problems can be addressed and results in significant change.
*Intensive Therapy as its name suggests is a short but intense period of therapy, which is part of the therapeutic process. The child or young person is seen for a number of hours per day for consecutive days in order to process complex trauma more rapidly. This enables the child or young person to be more focussed on the therapeutic process and to experience less intrusion of his/her daily life while trauma processing is taking place. Intensive therapy is specifically effective for children and young people who experience more complex and intensive types of behavioural problems due to unprocessed complex trauma.
